Progressive Project Intro
Being progressive to me is thinking ahead and progressing an issue/something you might be passionate about. Overall it's improving as a whole and looking towards the future. For my progressive project I chose lower income or often called "ghetto" neighborhoods. I chose this topic because I had previously learned about other neighborhoods that were under privileged and I was confused why the government isn't doing enough to help these neighborhoods acquire opportunities to be successful. I've heard stereotypes that the people living in these lower income neighborhoods are the reason why these neighborhoods get these reputations. I wanted to prove these stereotypes weren't true and prove these neighborhoods have plenty to offer.

Empathize And Define:
As a group we researched the topic and interviewed a victim, advocate, expert and opposer of lower income neighborhoods. After we gathered our info brainstormed solutions to problems we noticed in these neighborhoods. Below are the links to....

Ideate:
Prototype:
Our group's project idea was to create a social experiment using the pictures we took during our immersion experience. The plan was to have the person we were interviewing look at the pictures and sum up the pictures in one word. Then we would show the interviewee a video of residents from the lower income neighborhoods sum up their neighborhood in one word. After watching the videos we would ask them did your perspective change at all and what could be done to improve these neighborhoods.

Idea:
I would definitely tried to practice the actual social experiment itself more so my group and I would've been more comfortable approaching people and asking the right questions. Other then that I think we should've had an wider variety of photos to choose from so we could get different reactions from people.
Progressive day reflection
1. The most challenging part of progressive day was approaching people that we didn't know. We weren't really sure what kind of response we would get out of people. How we overcame this obstacle was as we started asking more people we got more comfortable approaching people.
2. What I valued most about the progressive challenge is that we were in some shape or form impacting peoples lives by not only interviewing but informing them of this issue. This Perspective I gained was from our exhibition because I could tell the people who came up to our booth were genuinely interested in what we had to say.
3. What I learned from progressivism from a academic standpoint is how important it is to find the truth and really research. For a lot of these topics society and the media advertise these issues in ways that can be not true or not important. For example I learned from my advocate for many gangs in neighborhoods were seen as positive people that had a common bond. while the media portrays gang members as terrifying people.
4. I think it impacted our user because now more people are exposed to what these neighborhoods are truly like and not the stereotypes that they hear word to mouth or from the media. More people know the truth about why these stereotypes aren't true. Something we could improve is maybe show the aftermath of the social experiment to the residents of the neighborhoods we visited to show them what kind of impact our project made.
