My project for externship for the most part is calculating the inventory of popular items in the shop and entering all sales for the past 2 years into the system. Tracking the stores inventory gives the owner a gauge of how much of each item they have in stock for the website, store etc. Entering all the sales into their system helps the store with calculating taxes at the end of each year. This can be a long/time consuming process considering they get hundreds of sales per month and all of it is recorded on paper. Other jobs that I will be doing will consist of taking pictures of merchandise for their Instagram page (Main source of marketing) and updating the site with pictures/new inventory. Overall I'm really excited to meet new people that have similar intrests as me and being a contributing member to a business that I've supported quite a bit over the past 3 years.

Some new knowledge that I've acquired thus far includes just how a consignment sneaker store buys, sells and trades. Mainly what items they consider buying outright and trading and what items they would just consign. It's really interesting to see how trends in the sneaker/fashion world shape their business. For shoes like Jordan 1's and Yeezy 350's are a hot commodity in the fashion world and those two shoes happen to be selling the best as well as taking up a large amount of their inventory in the store.

Some challenges that I've faced thus far at my externship is mainly memorizing the overall inventory, prices and sizes for all of our products. This is especially evident when helping out customers because most customers want to know when buying a product if we have more sizes, colors etc. Sometimes it can be kind of awkward not knowing even though I'm technically an employee at Rosewood. My co workers are usually always there to help. Most of them have been there quite a long time and have most of the inventory/prices memorized from prior sales. They also have access to our inventory on the computer so they're able to help out a customer if they need help.

An important skill that I've used in high school that really benefitted me throughout externship was proper communication. This really helped when talking to my boss and other employees about things I didn't know the answer to or was confused about. It was important to ask for help when I needed it as well so I could grow and get more comfortable with tasks I wasn't as familiar with. Communication was also important when answering questions on price negotiations and overall info on certain items. There are thousands of items in the store and its very difficult to every little detail and those are times co workers can help when they have more info about certain items then you.
I would say my externship mostly reminds me of my internship from last year because they were both businesses in their own way and they were both work spaces I wasn't quite familiar with. In both situations communication was a big role in succeeding and adapting to a new work space. It was also important for both situations to get along with fellow co workers because at the end of the day those are the people you will be interacting with everyday for 6-8 hours.

My externship experience is definitely something I want to explore as a career path. I'm still not sure if I want to explore on a smaller scale or do something much bigger like my past internship. As a matter of a fact I will continue to explore working for a small business in the coming weeks after externship/ high school which I'm very excited about. I think ultimately college will be the deciding factor in whether or not business in a general sense is something I want to continue to pursue. Ultimately I think its good to experience different types of businesses because there's limitless opportunities to create in the business field. There is also many paths a potential business could go you can stay local or become something much bigger.

3 people I'm really grateful for that really help me adapt and get better were my mentor Dante, my co worker Marcus and finally my other co worker Kevin. Whenever I was confused or needed help with something they would always give me an answer or help with solving the problem. They showed me how I could improve my work and how I could be a productive employee. I especially want to thank my mentor Dante on the other hand because he ultimately gave me the opportunity to have this experience. This was overall meaningful to me because without their insight I don't think I would've known as much early on and would've been much harder to adapt to this new work environment.
